At the end of the month I represented CUBO at the annual council meeting of the AUA where we discussed options for a closer dialogue on matters related to management development programmes and marketing initiatives. There are certainly some parallels with what we do. On the evening prior to the meeting, John Greenwood from York joined me to attend an excellent lecture/address by Steve Smith VC at Exeter where Steve set the scene for the next 5 years within universities and the need to get services working together and to expand commercial opportunity. Steve emphasised the need for universities to become imaginative in self income initiatives and to constantly lobby government to emphasise the benefits to the country's economy by producing well educated young adults.

AUA and CUBO will be each represented at each other's conferences in 2010. The AUA Conference is at Warwick University, 29 to 31 March 2010.
