Finance Group Kicks Off in Wolverhampton
Pat McGrath - Knowledge Sharing
At the CUBO Finance meeting at the University of Wolverhampton in September, it was decided to reform the group as the CUBO Finance Group. The meeting was attended by a whole range of people from a number of universities across the country. At that meeting the group discussed how it wished to go forward. It was agreed the group would meet twice a year at a different venue each time. Meetings would be based on a theme agreed by the Group.
As a result of this, the Knowledge Sharing area would initially be focussing on Finance and when that area is up and running, other areas would then be reviewed.
There is now a website available for this Group at: http://www.cubo.org.uk/knowledge-sharing.asp and there is a jiscmail mail group available so that members can keep in regular contact.
The first meeting of the newly formed group was a day conference held on 18 November at the University of Sheffield. Topics on the day included Higher Education finances going forward, VAT and tax issues, the principles of budget preparation and a presentation on CUBO by the Chair, Mark Swales. Free overnight accommodation was provided the night before the conference courtesy of Bovis Lendlease and CUBO covered the cost of the conference.
Twenty-four finance staff attended and the feedback from the event was excellent. A significant number of topics were identified by the attendees for future meetings and plans for a future event are already being processed.
